Using Chrome without Internet

The feature to use Chrome without Internet has been introduced to the Canary version.

It often happens that our Internet connection suddenly buzzes off and we are left high and dry, especially if we had to access some web pages urgently.

Chrome eliminates this worry by letting you access cached version of the web pages without Internet. The only glitch is that you should have had visited the web page in the past to access the cached version on your system.

Now, whenever you lose the Internet connection, you will see a ‘Show Saved Copy’ message, as displayed below.

Just click on the tab and the cached page will be displayed.

This feature is so useful that it is difficult not to imagine a mass release. If you don’t want to wait, you can install the Chrome Canary and use the feature.

The Google Products Accessible on Chrome without Internet

A lot of Google products are accessible on Chrome without Internet through its HTML 5 and synchronization properties. Some of them are:

Google Calendar

You can view or add calendar events and RSVP invitations two months in advance. Go to Google Calendar and choose ‘Offline’ from the gear icon. Install the Google Calendar web application from Google store. Once installed, go the gear icon again and you will see the ‘Offline’ option with a green check-mark, which shows that the online and offline calendar are synced.

Google Drive

You can access the immensely popular Google storage service, which is accessible offline only through Chrome browser. The offline access is available only on one account per Chrome profile, up to a maximum of 5 GB offline data.

If you’ve the updated Drive version, click on Settings > Offline > Sync.

If you’re using the classic Drive version, open it and on the left-side, click More > Offline > Get the App > Enable Offline.

You can access and edit any file on Google Drive, anytime.

Gmail

You can access old emails and compose new messages offline. All outbound emails are sent once you’re online and the outbound emails in offline mode are stored only for 30 days.

To enable, go to Gmail > Settings > Offline > Enable Offline Mail for this Computer > Save Changes; it might take some times for the changes to take effect.

To conclude, Chrome is a powerful browser and a lot of Google products can be used safely offline. As explained above, now you can use Chrome without Internet too.
