How to Add Password Protection to Google Chrome with Google Account



Adding password protection to the Google Chrome browser is not more than a simple task. You can do it by creating a new profile and setting it with password protection. Follow the steps below.


Step #1.Open Chrome and type chrome://flags/#enable-new-profile-management in the address bar and hit the ‘Enter’ key.

Step #2.Click the drop-down button underneath “Enable new profile management system” and select “Enabled.”

  • If you can’t find “Enable new profile management system” use Ctrl + F on Windows and Command + F on MAC to search “Enable new profile management system”.

  • If you don’t have the option then update your Chrome browser to the latest version.



Step #3.Once you enable the new profile management system, Relaunch now button will appear at the bottom of the page. Click that button or quite from the Chrome browser and reopen Chrome manually to save your changes.


Step #4.After relaunching the Google Chrome browser, a new profile icon will appear at the top-right corner of it. Now, click the profile icon; the profile menu should drop down. You can then sign-in to Google Chrome using your existing Google account credentials. Type the user name and password if you already have an account with Google or create a new Google account. After you log in successfully, the profile icon in the top-right corner should be replaced by the profile name of your Google account.

Should you remember your username and password to access your previous session, bookmarks, browsing history etc. Though you can log in as a guest from the “Browse as Guest” option, it won’t allow to access the protected and private data. If you forget your username and/or password the visit Google account recovery page to reset the password.


How to Lock Google Chrome Browser



Once you sign-in with your Google Id, you can now use the Google Chrome browser as usual. If you want to lock the Chrome browser just click the profile icon from the top-right corner of it and choose ‘Lock’.

Before clicking on your name in the profile icon, make sure that all the works are in progress be saved. Once you select ‘Lock’, all the tabs will be replaced by a small window with your profile name. If you want to use the previous tabs, windows, browsing history, bookmarks and settings, you have to enter your Google Account password.

Note: You must remember to lock your profile before closing Chrome because closing the browser won’t automatically lock your profile.


How to Completely Lock Google Chrome Browser



After locking your profile, other people can’t access your browsing data but they can still access the internet using your browser as a guest. If you want to take complete control of your Chrome browser and block any unauthorized person from accessing it just follow the steps below.


Step #1.Click the Chrome preference Menu > Settings from the top-right corner or you can simply paste the following at the address bar: chrome://settings/#sync-users-section.


Step #2.Uncheck the boxes ‘Enable Guest browsing’ and ‘Enable user creation from the profile manager’ under the ‘People’ section.

Relaunch the browser and you’ve successfully setup your Chrome browser to lock it whenever you want. No one can access it except you.
